Awesome little drone for ultralight hiking, work, documentation etc
I am extremely happy with this drone. For reference, I had the original DJI FPV drone which I dropped an insane amount of money on (full regret), with the gen 2 goggles, hard shell case, extra batteries, props, etc.. All told we are talking well over $1400 (I know I know). My main reason for switching to the neo is size. I wanted to be able to throw a drone in a carry on or in my ultralight go-pack for a weekend solo backpacking trip. I also wanted to be able to pluck the drone out of the air with my bare hands without having to worry that a gust of wind was going to result in my losing a finger. This drone complete with a charger, anker battery brick, extra battery, extra props, and a few tools, all fits in the LKTOP carrying case no problem and weighs basically nothing as far as I’m concerned. For ultralight backpacking, I will fly this exclusively with my phone. The fact that it can also be used as an FPV drone is incredible (unfortunately it does NOT work with the original DJI FPV goggles or controller (gen2), which is a real bummer for me).battery charges from an anker battery brick in about 2 minutes, so I really do think that the triple battery set and charger is way overkill. By the time you finish flying with one battery, the other battery will be basically fully charged and ready to go. I am not a hollywood director, so the 4k at 30 FPS is more than good enough for me.The neo sits in that beautiful niche of ultralight recon drone. I am extremely, extremely happy with it, and the $200 price point is honestly a steal. The one thing I am really not a fan of is the DJI fly app and the fact that on android you have to download it from the DJI website and turn off all sorts of security to use it. That is a serious concern of mine, and for that I nearly removed one star…. But in terms of hardware, the softwares functionality (not security), and the joy of using this thing…. hard to beat. I already accidentally flew it into some tree branches and it was none the worse for wear.

This is Too Awesome For Words
As a first time drone owner words can’t explain how impressed I am. It hovers rock solid, and in my opinion the images it produce, while not the absolute highest quality, are very excellent.

Compact, powerful, and so much fun to fly!
I’m blown away by how easy this little drone is to use! The setup was super simple, and the 4K camera quality is incredible for its size. The flight is smooth and stable even in a light breeze, and I love the built-in safety guards that make it great for beginners. Perfect for travel shots and creative content. Totally worth it—especially at this price!

Good but needs minor tweaks
This was difficult to get sorted out and synced to the controllers. Now it is very fun and intuitive. I flew it close to a bees nest and it sucked a few into the rotors and stayed in the air. It also stabilized after a small collision with a upright branch. The max speed is good for wooded areas but I would prefer it to be faster if I was in a field. I struggle to get the data off the recordings so the subtitles block out the video. It has suffered minor crashes and been fine. I recommend the protection plan so you’re not afraid to fly. You should use the motion remote controller for this unless you have another compatible controller already.

I love this drone!!
Very nice Drone I can tell … I’m very satisfied with the video quality, easy to use from day cero, really stable when flying and the best is that you can use it by itself, with the app in the phone or with the remote control …Like an advice, I know there is a lot people having trouble to turn it on for first time, the right way is pressing the power button, let it go and then push it again until the full line of LEDs are on unpush and is ready to go, same thing with the Remote control( if you buy it)

DJI Fly App software is a disaster – Android — Battery sticks in drone – very hard to remove
The stupid app, or should I say, whoever wrote the software, has a page that asks you to put in a password.Below that is a security line that has graphic characters you have to enter. Simple enough, right. Well, it’s not. So I put in a password on the line that asks for a password and enter the text for the graphic text in the box below…And press enter. Then it has the message “Invalid Email” — BUT IT DIDN’T ask for an Email address! It asked for a password. So I try a few more times to see if the bug will clear. It doesn’t. I try entering an Email address in the box that is asking for a PASSWORD. Nope, it doesn’t like that. Then it reverses and says “Invalid Password”I try looking up the issue online and find lots of people having that problem on initial set up, or worse yet, after they have it working, at least for a while. Those complaints meant they couldn’t fly.I try it again both ways. Nothing works. Then I find the stupid app won’t let me out of it, and starts sending me ads to my phone. Just great. I try to get out of the app. No luck, even though it doesn’t work. I found the only why out way a forced restart. What makes this worse is I had a similar problem at an earlier stage of set up. I had cleared to one after a few attempts. Between this and the problems I found when inspecting the drone as I unpacked it, I can tell this thing is going a royal pain.Oh, and I did uninstall the software, and re-install it. Same results. On the battery cover are instructions to remove the battery. Fine, open door. OK. There is a catch to press up. No problem. With catch up, pull battery out. Sounds like no problem, except the battery is so tight that pulling on it, and trying to get it free takes over 20 minutes. I look that up and find a ton of complaints, if not when new, then after the battery has been charged or when it gets a little old, and in either case, swells even just a bit. I haven’t even charged it yet.I finally get it out a few minutes later — but gently with pliers! I then inspect the battery and find it really is tight, but slide it in and out about 3/4 many times and get it to loosen enough that I can now pull it out by hand.I currently own 14 digital cameras of various types and manufacturers, plus many other devices. I have never come across a device so poorly designed that a removeable battery is so hard to remove. I will emphasize that this was before charging the battery, or dealing with an expanding battery.I haven’t even gotten a chance to fly the darn thing yet and I already don’t trust the software, nor trust that the battery will ever really be easy to remove. Then there is the little straps that were wrapped around the props to protect them in storage. They were clearly made only for delivery as one had failed before I unpacked it. The other was not made to stick together more than a few times. It would have made more sense to have straps with some very light grip velcro that can be re-used.I will add that the controller does not have a removable battery, which makes me think it may be a throwaway, possibly making the drone a throwaway. The drone battery charges inside the drone. That doesn’t seem to be a good idea. DJI indicates there is a separate charger. I would never recommend ever charging a battery within a camera, and never do because the added heat damages cameras.Folding up to be compact is all very nice, but a guard around the props might make more sense for long term durability. I’ve heard how nice these are, and the tolerance to higher wind conditions is very attractive to me for the end use I have planned, but reliable software and mechanics is rather critical. The short time I’ve had this this model has ruined DJI drones for me. NEVER AGAIN. It reminds me of the time, over 35 years ago, that I was buying a new car. I actually leased it because I didn’t trust the manufacturer’s reliability. As the car was being pulled up for delivery, the power steering pump failed. I seriously considered telling them to stuff it. I didn’t, and due to poor quality parts, by admission of the manufacturer themselves, the car went through 2 more PS pumps and 4 rack and pinions over the next 36,000 miles, until they got revised designs from another manufacturer. When I turned in the car, I told them I would not even look at another car from that company for at least 20 years because the quality issues were so systemic. I have yet to be back because their products still aren’t that great.I’m putting DJI on that list. I have ask, what makes this ill-designed thing so good?

Pretty good and easy to use;Sadly there’s many laws in Japan and is very difficult to use it outside your own house. The setup was simple and the quality of the camera is acceptable.Wind can be a issue.Flying in manual mode is a challenge.

After taking a lot of time in getting familiar with the basics of drone flying, I have come to find the DJI Neo to be fairly user friendly, especially for beginners. Its compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry around as compared to larger drones. And while the video quality doesn’t quite match drones that cost two to three times as much, the resulting video footage it produces is more than sufficient for my needs, such as creating the occasional YouTube video. One notable downside is the battery life, which only lasts about 10 to 15 minutes per charge, so it would be worthwhile to invest in a spare. So far, I have only used the drone with the phone app for control, but it can sometimes feel a bit laggy or unresponsive. Because of this, I am considering purchasing a physical controller.Overall, considering its affordable entry price and ease of use, the DJI Neo is an excellent starter drone for newbies like me!
