Drones are interesting in that they are disrupting existing industries and creating new markets. The drone itself is simply a delivery mechanism used to gather data, in the form of pixels and other medium used by sensors, and in logistics. Drones are disruptive in that they lower costs, open new markets, and make other products obsolete. It is in the pixels and other areas (artificial intelligence, machine learning) where the most money will be made.
Drones, eVTOL and other new methods of transportation can change many facets of our lives. It is an exciting time to be alive and watch all these changes. While knowledge of the various technologies is advancing rapidly, we need to take time now to carefully ponder the market dynamics and economic nature of these emerging technologies. “Drone Economics” by Darryl Jenkins and Bijan Vasigh, is an excellent beginning to this branch of knowledge and will become an instant classic.

The most comprehensive publication
This is the most comprehensive outlook published to date on the future of unmanned aerial vehicles and obstacles and challenges this technology has to overcome to comfortably establish itself across multiple sectors of economy. It explores the concept of disruptive technologies and how they evolve over the years with plenty of great ideas on smoother drone technology integration. The book provides a broad perspective on what is possible, what opportunities exist and why these innovations are necessary today. It also discusses how markets will have to adjust to accommodate for such major changes and what will control and drive drones development. Authors specifically cover a wide array of commercial drone market segments in detail as well as roles multiple stakeholders will play in this transition. Finally, authors point out multiple barriers and constraints to be addressed to assure integration success. The book contains a handful of research and case studies that make it an interesting interactive read. Tech geeks will also be delighted to find a great deal of technical information here. I highly recommend this book to both industry professionals and drone enthusiasts!

Interesting read.
As a fairly new technology drones have captured the imaginations of young and old; amateur and professional; military and civilian industries. This book doesn’t cover the military dimensions of drone usage but discusses various potential and expanding uses of the drone and its associated technologies such as sensors, cameras; all being refined and improved rapidly. One may think of investing in manufacturing of drone industries or even start a new business using drone technology. Whatever the case may be this book is a good and essential read.

Deepdive
While it’s clear UAS technology will have a place in our future, it’s adoption across different disciplines has yet to be seen. The question isn’t if- but rather how UAS technology will be integrated within different sectors of the economy.Drone economics dives into the forces that drive manufacturing, adoption, and economic growth, while addressing the natures of this quickly changing technology.
