1 Year in, Detailed review: LOVE it!
I depend on honest detailed reviews when searching. I’ll try to pay it forward here. Bias alert: I have found the Kasa products easy to use and dependable. I have Kasa smart plugs and light bulbs that I bought previously. Made in Vietnam, not China, was a thing for me.First, know what you need and how the device works. I didn’t want to pay a monthly fee for stored video or access, this fits the bill (but cloud storage is available if you wish, I don’t use). Know that you need a wired/powered doorbell location, or add a plug-in power supply (what I did, 18V 500mA Doorbell Adapter, 10$). It needs a micro SD memory card to store footage in the doorbell. Device connects to your wireless Wi-Fi network.Review: I have 2, one for each door. I bought one to try out and went about 3 months of flawless performance and got the 2nd. I’m in over a year now on both. This device at this price has met my need and satisfaction perfectly. My Mother-in-law has a Ring bell, I see no meaningful difference except Ring requires minimum annual subscription to access data, a few more notification options, and an initial higher cost.-The VID QUALITY is great, can be set to higher or lower resolution depending on how much you want to stretch card memory for recording. On your Kasa app (have iPhone) you can zoom in and pan the picture both live and on recordings. Night vision is nice as well. You can set to full 24 hour record, or just movement incidents. I use 24 hr. record on my 256 MB SD card (max size). I get about 3 months of video (mid resolution) before it fills and starts over recording in a loop. Movement incidents are highlighted on the timeline, and files of Motion events are date stamped. App has photo capture and export features. Phone alert settings for motion detection are nice, but are according to how your phone settings deliver alerts.-MOTION DETECTION/SENSITIVITY takes a little tweaking to adjust settings to balance your desire to be bugged every second, or only if the world is ending. There is a setting where you can create an “activity zone” frame to focus on movement areas and ignore parts of the picture. You can set and size adjust area very specifically. I have a tree in one picture frame, but off to the side, I set the zone to ignore that area. Really limits false alarms on windy nights. Primary trigger is light sensitivity, bright headlights can be alerted as motion at night. It happens very rarely for my home. It also has a setting trigger to “sound detection”, but I have that disabled, didn’t see the need.-COMMUNICATION Audio through the device has a slight delay, (1/2-1 second, maybe) but sound is acceptable both in and out. Just remember it’s not an intercom. I have never had a connection problem and in the last year the only time I’ve been disconnected were power outages, no way around that. They include an outlet plug-in doorbell sounder with a few choices for unique chime. I set each to different sound and pick a door close wall to determine front or back.I have no complaints, knew what I was buying, the purpose, and limitations. Outstanding for the price. The only drawback I see is if you want high security, the card is in the doorbell. Rip it off that wall, and there goes your evidence, unless you have added the cloud storage service. Depending on your handiness I suppose you could make the Bell more secure. Hope this helps you make a great choice.

    This is what I think.
This Kasa camera is the 3rd or 4th camera I have given a try. I had tried both battery operated and hard wired. The idea of having to replace or charge the batteries every few months turned me away from the battery operated cameras.I have an older Condo and had to purchase a new transformer in order to power this Kasa. I almost didn’t try it because the doorbell transformer is tucked up inside a small laundry closet and was heck to get access to… and even then I had to do most of the work with my left hand. Anyway, this old dude managed somehow. When I went to hook up the camera the instructions told me to look for a blinking orange light to confirm I was getting power. Well, all I could see was a white circle light and it was not blinking. I contacted customer service and they walked me through the process a couple of times and I still only saw the white circle light. The CS rep finally said something to the effect of… “You are looking at the small LED light at the top, right?” Well… with my old eyeballs I had never even seen or noticed that itty bitty thing. Once the light was confirmed blinking I was up and running. When I removed my doorbell cover there was a large hole in the wall behind it that was larger than the base of the camera body. I went to Michael’s and bought a $2 oval wood piece and painted it. I had to drill holes for the screws and the wires but that part was easy.It has been about a month since installation and I have to give this camera 5 STARS. I’m sure it is not the best one out there… but for $45 it does remarkably well. It makes no sense to me at all to pay for remote storage of ‘MY’ video. For starters, I think just by having the camera light up when someone approaches is a pretty good deterrent to someone with ulterior motives.I get a notice within 3 seconds if I am on WiFi and maybe 10 or 12 seconds when I am away. This gives plenty of time to speak to someone through the unit… or to use one of the handful of recorded messages. When large trucks or vans go by I usually get a false alert… but I don’t find it to be much of a nuisance as I don’t live on a major street. The software does allow you to outline the ‘active’ areas but I have not found that it makes much of a difference. If desired, you have the option to pay a small monthly fee for storage (much less than some others) but you also have the option to insert a Micro SD card, which is what I did. As I understand it, the old video gets replaced to make room for the more recent video. Someone was complaining of this in their review but I find it to be brilliant. If there is a ‘serious’ event that takes place I can always remove the SD card and copy that file to my computer. But… at least i don’t have to remove the SD card every month or so to clear it out for the new data.I haven’t had a chance to check out the night visions as our HOA turns all of the porch lights on automatically with a light sensor… but in my case, even with the porch light glaring in, the view is very acceptable.I actually think that this company could give ‘R#*G’ a run for their money. The quality is pretty great (especially at this price point), the subscription service is much lower… AND they allow you the option for local storage. Who would pay two or three times as much for the other brand… and then have to pay out a substantial amount of money over time in order to have access to your own video?!A bit of software upgrade and I’d give it 5 stars at twice this price… but as it is, I am not sure where I could have found a better value and still have my home ‘protected’.

Good picture and value. Easy to setup.
Good picture. You can set zones for motion and person detection along with sensitivity. I have other Kasa cameras to operate the same and this makes it handy to get alerted when someone or something is actually in your yard. You do need to play with the sensitivity. You can also set times for when alerting is on. Install was fairly simple though the wires coming out of the wall are difficult to pack in with the thin mounting plate. Using a memory card and get several days of recording in the loop. The app easily jumps to a selected detection alert time. I wish it would use the house doorbell chime instead of or in addition to the chime it comes with but not that big a deal. I also wish I could have it automatically announce a “you are being recorded” message when like the Ring unit. Since I have other Kasa devices this was a nice add to the same app. I haven’t tried this yet but believe I could have the Kasa system turn on the front lights which are on smart switch if the doorbell detected a person at night. I’ll update my review if/when I try this feature out.

    Great Camera and Great App
Great price and the app is better than others. I have other cameras that I am getting ready to replace because the app is so full of ads that make them almost unusable if you don’t pay a monthly fee. The Kasa app is fully functional without a monthly fee. Good image, easy to install, easy to set up. Would buy again.

I purchased the Kasa KD110 Video Doorbell spring of 2023. It was a great purchase. I live in Southern Ontario, so the weather ranges from summer hot to winter cold. This device has worked great throughout it all. I had to replace the old typical door bell in our house. I pulled it all out. Ran a new power supply and hooked it all up. The door bell and the chime paired up immediately. Setup door bell using the Kasa app, got it connected to my wifi and was watching everything in front of my house in minutes. Installed a micro sd card and can review everything the camera sees. The image is decent for both daytime and nighttime viewing. The motion detection works well as does the person detection. Have had no issues with connecting to the camera from where ever I may be. The two-way audio works well enough.Would be great if they would add the ability to view the camera from a web browser on my computer.

This doorbell is great for the price. The fact that it comes with the chime for the price is great. Also, there was probably a software update on the kasa app as you can save videos without a cloud service. You do need an sd card to do so. Quality of picture is great. Angle could be a bit better vertically as it doesn’t see the floor below it. Only bug i found so far the connection between the chime and the doorbell can take long sometimes. People will ring the doorbell and it wont ring inside. Whenever they press a second time, it will definitely ring inside. Installation is pretty straightforward but make sure all the apps are up to date. I had the kasa app for smart plugs and it wasn’t up to date. Because of that, the doorbell wasn’t connecting to the app. Good for an affordable doorbell and camera system.
