Exactly what this female grad student was looking for!
*Edit, January 2018I am still loving this bag! I’ve used it as my everyday backpack as a high school teacher for the past few years, and still find it absolutely perfect for my needs. However, a few weeks ago I messed up – I tried to squeeze too much in the bag (it is definitely a small backpack, which is what I love most about it) and the zipper seam ripped. But come on…after years of constant use, I just can’t be upset. And really, it was my fault. Everything else about the bag is still holding up beautifully. And I can’t say enough about how much I love the size. Perfect for carrying a laptop, tablet, and a small stack of grading. No extra space means I stay organized and only carry what I need. I’ll honestly probably buy another of these if I can’t get the zipper fixed on this one. See my original review below for a full description of the backpack – I still agree with every word! Even though I sound like I was paid to write this, I swear I wasn’t.Original review, August 2013Here’s the deal: finding a backpack online is hard. If you’re like me, you spend hours looking at potential purchases, agonizing over the fact that you can’t see, hold, or try out what you’re considering spending money on. Since I know how difficult it is to find a backpack online, and because I’m so pleased with this product, I’m going to try to give a very comprehensive review. Note that I am a female grad student who uses this bag to carry an ultrabook, iPad, small paperback philosophy texts, and a notebook or two to and from campus every day. With that said, here goes:The price and quality:I was a little apprehensive about the price of the Triple Trek, since the other backpacks I was considering (Case Logic 15″, Belkin Slim, and Belkin Core mainly) were all $25-40. While it may not be a lot to many, to someone in grad school $58 is a lot to spend on a backpack. In my opinion, though, it was worth the price. The backpack is both lightweight and sturdy-feeling, and appears to be of good quality. The padding is very good, and the weight distribution is fantastic. I wouldn’t pay too much more than what I did for this bag, but that may just be because I’m cheap. All in all, I think it’s a good price, and if you can find it for less, even better!The appearance:I wasn’t quite sure what to expect here. The other reviews said it looked great, but the pictures are just not good quality. The bag sorta looked like fake leather to me, but I decided to believe the other reviewers when they said it looked good. They were right! I really like the look of the bag. The material is not fake leather but is that woven nylon material that many backpacks are made of. The black zippers, zipper pulls, and logo give the back a really sleek look, as does the size. And speaking of the size…The size:This is honestly my favorite part about the bag. I absolutely LOVE the size of it! I’m a 5′ 5″ woman, so it’s not like I’m super tiny. But even so, I’m so sick of backpacks that are so long that they cover my butt! I tighten the straps as much as possible, but the bags are always still so long. Not only is this uncomfortable (a backpack should lay flat along your back), but it looks silly and is just a waste of space! I spent hours looking on Amazon and other places, trying to find a backpack that was roughly the length of, you know, my back. And here, I finally found one. When I saw that the Triple Trek was only 14″ compared to 18″ on almost all of the other bags I was looking at, I knew I had to at least give it a shot. And I am so happy I did! Ladies, if you’ve been looking for a small backpack (that you don’t need to carry giant textbooks with), please try this one!The compartments:The laptop pocket perfectly fits my ultrabook in its envelope-style case, so I’m certain it would fit a non-ultrabook that’s not in a case. The tablet pocket also perfectly fits my iPad in its smart case, and would probably fit one in a slightly larger case as well (an Otterbox would definitely be a stretch). These two pockets are very nicely padded and I don’t feel the need to gingerly set the bag down every time. The space between the two padded pockets inside the main compartment is perfect for what I was looking to carry, which is just a couple paperback books, a planner, and a notebook. To give you a size reference, I’d say you could squeeze (and I mean squeeeeze) 2 3-subject notebooks in there, and 3 of those if you don’t have a laptop or tablet in at the time. The front pocket has a couple spots for pens, plus another small pockets and a small mesh pocket. In front of these you could fit another paperback if you needed to. There’s also a clip to attach keys in this front pocket. The top pocket is soft and would be perfect for a cell phone or game device, and has the headphone pass-through. The hidden water bottle pocket on the side is just genius; it’s there when you need it, but tucks away when you don’t to keep the bag looking neat and streamlined. I’d imagine you could shove a few pens in that pocket as well, if you never plan to use the mesh water bottle holder. Finally, there’s also a hidden on the right side of the bag right next to your back. It’s about 8″ or so, is very flat, and is held closed by a 3″ strip of Velcro. I actually don’t know what I’d put in that pocket, but its so flat and inconspicuous that it doesn’t detract from the bag whatsoever even if it’s never used. I imagine that if you use the bag as a carry-on that this would be the perfect place for a passport and boarding pass, as it is very easy to access.Conclusion:I love this bag! After so long searching for the perfect backpack, I think I can say that I found it! I would absolutely recommend this bag, especially to ladies. It’s perfect for school or business, as long as you travel light.

Yes, bottles CAN fit!
Many reviews of this backpack, which I’ve had for nearly 2 years now, state that the bottle holder cannot hold a reasonable (or sometimes any) sized bottle. Included in my pictures you can see that it can indeed hold at least a couple of simple plastic bottles including a 12 ounce BAI tea bottle and a 17 ounce ICE drink bottle. Buy one, wash & reuse. This pouch can be used for ID badges, car keys (a large key ring would fit), several pens or mechanical pencils as well. I believe the Kensington Triple Trek is intended as a commuter backpack primarily for those needing to transport laptops and related gear, I find the 2 bottle sizes suitable. I can make it through a 2 hour meeting with either one, and simply refill before the next meeting or task. The backpack with its main section loaded measures about 4 inches deep at the bottom and 2 inches at the top. Another inch or so would protrude if the front pockets were stuffed. I took a couple stars off since I don’t believe this one is really that “waterproof” but likely water resistant. Due to its slim size, many people could simply carry a rain jacket within the backpack and put it on when needed OVER the backpack, should rain come. It’s quite professional looking with the brand badge and matching zipper pull are all silver-gunmetal in color. As some have mentioned, the zipper pulls CAN get caught and hung up at odd angles but this only takes a half-second to correct when needed before pulling on the zipper. Another of my photos shows my 14.1 screen sized HP Elitebook laptop. Note the amount of space afforded between the top of the laptop and the top of the backpack. AND, this is with the laptop sitting on top of a 1/2 inch high solid foam piece that I have in the bottom of the laptop slot for additional “drop protection”. The flexible velcro strap keeps the laptop in firmly and such straps are getting more rare. In another photo I display the laptop, plus a full sized mousepad in the tablet sleeve (provided additional laptop protection since I don’t often use a tablet computer, and a full-sized 1-inch 3 ring binder. Still this section is not completely full. Note: a 1-inch D-ring style binder WILL also fit in between the laptop and tablet storage sections. Included photos show that both my 14.1 screen HP and, a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will fit together along with a D-ring 1-inch binder between them, OR, with the laptop and Surface together in the same laptop section, still secured by the velcro strap (it’s long enough). Did I mention that the Surface has it’s “Type Cover” attached? Keeping the rectangular shape of the backpack from top to bottom makes this all possible. Kensington didn’t narrow the top of the backpack so much that it would prevent this much lengthwise storage of paperwork and devices. Carrying all 3 of these along with associated charger cables, bricks, mice and such would likely bring the total to over 10 pounds of course! I’m saying the backpack can do it, not that you should…The top front pocket is softly lined like the laptop and tablet sleeves are and measures 6.75 inches deep of usable space by 8 inches across. The bottom front pocket, with 2 pen/pencil slots, a key keeper, a covered slide in pocket (that holds my iphone 13-mini in an otterbox case, and another such slide in pocket with mesh so you can see what’s in it, along with additional storage under these pockets and pen & key holders. In total, it measures 7.5 inches wide of usable space and 9 inches depth-wise. I feel that Kensington really maximize the amount of usable space in this smaller and very versatile backpack. The perfect little laptop backpack
This still, by far, one of the best purchases I have ever made on Amazon. Hard to believe I purchased this small backpack 6 years ago. I have used it extensively since, and it still works like new. The only minor aspect that I would have liked to have been a little stronger is the hidden water-bottle mesh, which is a bit torn in places. But given the beating this bag has otherwise taken, I’d say it is a remarkable piece.My main reason for picking this one was to get a small bag for travel & office stints large enough to accommodate the basics (14″ laptop, ipad, chargers, phone & accessories, cap & gloves etc) but not so large that I end up overpacking. I needed something that did the job without creating any kind of backstrain. This bag is just perfect for that. Easy to sling over one shoulder or both, well-balanced, and more than enough room. Also super-easy to slip under the airline seat in front of you, leaving enough room for your feet. Looks sleek and slick too. I also like the hidden velcro pocket – great for storing your passport and other travel documents separate from the rest of your stuff. I would happily buy one again if I ever needed to.

This is my third purchase of seemingly same backpack. First I got around 2013 mb, next in 2017. Both were of perfect quality and lasted quite long, considering very often use. I was excited to see that the same backpack is still being produced and just bought a new one from Amazon. But got very disappointed with the quality, it dropped dramatically from 2017. In terms of design it is exactly the same product, but materials feel much cheaper, especially zipper. Fabric is worse too. Will see how long it last, but my guess would be not too long. And it is less pleasant to use too.

Hace mas de un año que compre este backpack, lo uso regularmente y sigue en buenas condiciones. Creo que la imagen del proveedor ejemplifica exactamente la capacidad del producto. Yo lo uso para transportar mi notebook, tablet, cargadores, un par de libretas y lentes. No hay espacio para mucho mas. Tiene integrada una red lateral para cargar una botella de agua, pero es un poco estrecha.Compre este producto harto de cargar backpacks gigantescos y estoy conforme con su capacidad, fue una buena inversion.
