A new technology.
These are not what I expected. I am liking them. I am visionally impaired, legally blind as far as driving for 20 years now. But I can still see, some things, like a tunnel and darkening. But I see hope in these, that they might help make me safe. I have been bashed three times, the worst kicked in the head while I was down and couldn’t defend myself. Concussion and broken jaw in two places and three broken teeth. I don’t remember a thing. Was told my neuromuscular and visual damage could be traced to that. These might evolve to help some of us.

Stopped working.
Had trouble pairing, but with assistance of chat, GPT was able to pair, and everything seem to be working well, but after one day using for probably one hour glasses would not turn on again. ChatGPT assisted with rebooting, deep rebooting, and suggested that I return glasses I am in the process of doing that at this time. When they were working, I was impressed with functionality, e.g. what am I looking that seemed accurate, wish they had worked. For me to take next step.

Legendary Look, Glitchy Setup, Weak Tint, and That Blinking Snitch Light
I bought the Oakley Meta HSTN for the style, stayed for the tech—and nearly rage-quit during setup. These smart glasses are sleek, lightweight, and surprisingly comfortable for all-day wear. The audio is crisp, the touch controls are intuitive, and the voice assistant integration feels like sci-fi made real.But then came the messaging setup loop.Despite enabling notifications and contact sync on my iPhone 16 Pro Max (iOS 26), the Meta AI app kept throwing an error: “Turn on Show Message Notifications and Sync Contacts.” They were already on. I toggled, rebooted, reinstalled—nothing worked.The fix?Changing “Show Previews” for Messages to “Always” and rebooting the phone. That single tweak unlocked messaging like a cheat code. It’s a known bug with iOS 26 and Meta AI’s permission detection, but once you beat it, the glasses work flawlessly.Now the real-world test: sunlight.The lenses look great indoors and in shade, but they don’t get dark enough in direct sun. If you’re expecting full transition-style tinting, you’ll be squinting. It’s more fashion-forward than function-forward when it comes to UV protection.And here’s the dealbreaker for stealth users:The LED recording light is always on when capturing video—and there’s no way to disable it. I get the privacy angle, but it kills the cinematic vibe. You’re trying to record a moment discreetly, and instead you’ve got a blinking tattletale on your face.Bottom line:If you’re tech-savvy and patient, these glasses are a vibe. Just be ready to wrestle with setup if you’re on iOS 26, don’t expect blackout shades in bright sun, and forget about stealth recording. Once it’s dialed in, you’re living in the future—with Oakley style and a glowing forehead.

Could use some changes but overall happy!
Okay I’m going to put some effort into this review because I been eying this for some time now. Here we go!Initial ImpressionI was disappointed at first because the pair sent to me were used when I paid for brand new. The product packaging was already opened and not attached. The battery tab was already removed and the glasses were paired to another account. It let me factory wipe them and pair to mine an Amazon made the situation right with a partial credit so I was happy.Feel of the GlassesThe glasses are thicker than normal sunglasses, especially by Oakley standard, but that is expected since they have to build the actual smart functions inside the frame. Overall it felt fine on my head. I’m a bigger guy and the glasses fit well. I was nervous because I saw reviews that said they were too small. I’m 6’1, 300lbs and I have no issue.Lens TransitioningThis is my first main disappointment. I saw people say how they didn’t protect against the sun as much as they hoped and I echo that statement. The lens also don’t fully transition to how the stock image looks and takes about 5 minutes to even start to darken. The attached images were after going for a 30 minute walk at 8:30-9 AM this morning when the sun was shining brightly. I wish they could be better at blocking the light once transitioned.CameraThe camera is amazing. The video and picture quality is perfect. I can’t say much more about it. I wouldn’t change a thing!SoundThe sound is great as well! If you have it turned up people will hear your speaker if they are next to you but at a mid level it is hardly noticeable to outside people at all.FunctionalityI love the features it provides. Live AI is awesome since you do not had to keep saying “Hey Meta.” You can simply ask it questions while running. The AI could use some work but as with all AI’s they are works in progress. The glasses are updatable and get new features added with updates so I’m excited to see where it all can lead.BatteryThe battery seems to be lacking. I was at 100% this morning and played music during my walk and it ended up hitting 80% after about 25 minutes. This was my first real use though so I’m going to give the battery another test after a few days in case any background updates or syncing or anything else was going on.OverallI think the glasses are pretty good. I’d say it’s more on the high end of 3 star and if the lenses could transition faster and darker that could bump it up to a 4 or 5. Since I got a partial refund for them being a return (which could also play a factor in my battery life) I think the value for my money was good but would have been a little bummed if I had spent the full amount. Will update as I use them more and after any new updates that come out! They are a new product so I’m sure there will be growing pains so I’m excited to see where they end up!

I absolutely love the look of the glasses. I get a lot of compliments wherever, I go. I dropped them face down on the pavement and not a scratch. Quick charge to get them back to 100%. I inserted the reading strips at the bottom so I can wear all the time.

I had a pair of Gen 1 Raybans that I enjoyed but after only 4 uses the ear stem broke. I debated on whether I was going to get another pair or not. I eventually decided to give these a shot and really really like them. So much so that I’m ordering a pair with prescription lenses so I can wear them every day.

Excellent piece of technology. Actually more stylish than I first thought. The battery life is excellent for what it is although if recording videos it does not last as long as advertised. I fit in 12x 3 min video recordings before needing to return to case. Camera quality is amazing. An example of a cricket game I played is included on its battery saving quality.
