What should I do when the pen and paper refill runs out?
You can replace the refill. Replacement refills are available from the Ophaya online store.
Can the Smart Pen record audio?
The Smart Pen itself does not have a built-in microphone. To record audio, connect the pen to the app and tap the record icon in the app or on the notebook.
Can I write on any kind of paper?
No, the Smart Pen only works with Ophaya dot-coded paper
How do I pair the Smart Pen with the app?
Turn on the Smart Pen and make sure Bluetooth and Location Services are enabled on your phone. Open the app, tap the pen icon in the top-right corner, and select your device. Once connected, the icon will turn blue.
Is the writing board similar to a tablet?
No, the writing board is a simple writing tool. It has no software functions and is not a touchscreen device.

I rarely leave reviews, but this one deserves it.As someone working in the field, writing things down quickly and clearly isn’t optional—it’s essential. I’ve used other smart pens before, including the Livescribe. This one blows them all away.My daily work setup is fast-paced, messy, and full of surprises. I needed something that could keep up. This works! I was skeptical, but it works as advertised. I am an artist and use this for art. It does pick up your lines. You just have to work on a brightly lit space. The battery life of the pen is great, it lasts for a long time. It’s easy to use, you just open the notebook, tap the page with the pen, and the app automatically knows which page you’re on. The only downside is that there’s no case for the boogie board tablet, you’re on your own for that one. Other than that, the paper notebook and the pen both fit nicely on the case/cover, it looks so good and professional. It doesn’t look like you’re carrying technology around.Another cool detail is that you don’t need the app open for the pen to record your writing. It remembers what you wrote. When you open the app, it syncs up to the app and restores whatever you wrote on the pages. Really fun and futuristic gadget. I will be coming back for those replacement pages

Cheap and app not good
Not good. The book itself was fine. Having to use an app simultaneously stinks. But the board would just lose info when synching.. no way to even make a simple folder in the app. Giving 2 stars because the notebook worked but if that’s what you want there are notebooks for $20 that do the same thing. Wasted $80.

Poorly designed software limits usefulness of product
There are things I like about this product and things which just don’t work well. First there is an app for the syncing of information to your phone. There are limitations such as inability to restore accidentally deleted pages and recordings. The app works most of the time in live sync, but when using the LCD tablet, doesn’t allow you to set a focus for where the uploaded data will land. This results in overwriting other notes that are already in the app. If you are using more than one pen with the app, this becomes a nightmare since it will always go back to last entry from the pen you are using. There is no option for the data to be resent so you basically have pages that cannot be OCR’d. It would be nice to be able to hit something during playback to capture the newer material onto another page. The dot-coded paper works better since it tracks what page number is being written to. But my goal was to reduce my use of paper so that binder is for my journal and not for daily notetaking. The app also fails to generate an image and send it to OneNote; the screen just flashes. That means I have to take extra steps to 1) activate text recognition and copy the result 2) cancel and go back to share to generate a PDF to send to OneNote, copying the text version into the “add a note” area 3) sync my phone’s OneNote with the cloud 4) open the PDF from desktop OneNote, screen shot it and paste it into OneNote. My Rocketbook app can take a page or multiple pages and do all this in one step! I am returning the product for now and going back to Rocketbook. Hoping development will come up with dot-coded erasable numbered pages, as well as fix the export to png issue. Then I will consider buying again.

Very good product very useful
I got this pen because the problem with note-taking for me in the past was that I never looked back at my notes, I just couldn’t find them after and it stresses me out. But, with Ophaya smartpen it is so much easier. It automatically records everything I write during school and the more interesting part is that it will still record without the electronic device/app being connected, the notes/drawing can be stored in offline storage, you will just have to connect to the app again and your info will be there. Also–Recording your voice while taking notes is the function that really impressed me, Thinking back on what I thought when I was taking notes would help me understand/memorize bette It is such a high-quality product with such a good decent price, I highly recommend people to give it a try.

I’ve tried using this product twice and it’s still not working like it should. Yes, I charged it before each use. I tried to play back the recording and that didn’t work too. I was looking forward to using this for school but this was definitely a waste of money. I couldn’t even return it within the time frame because I’m out of the country but I really won’t recommend this.
