tl;dr Great, feature-packed Matter over Thread lock at a Wi-fi price!
Our previous lock manufacturer informed us they would be ceasing operations and shutting down their servers, thus rendering their app and all HomeKit/Alexa connectivity dead. Like, seriously.I just upgraded all our wi-fi lights to Matter lights and we’re loving the improved speed and reliability of this protocol. So the silver lining to Reagle’s demise is that are we got to upgrade to a Matter over Thread lock. Beyond all the upgraded features, the big selling point is that after programming fingerprints and a couple of other settings on their app (which I believe is all handled locally and doesn’t involve the manufacturer’s servers), the X1 can be totally controlled via HomeKit.Pros: all of the above, plusFingerprint access is instantaneous.Code response is instantaneousApple Key response is instantaneousHomeKit response — voice or remote from phone– is near instantaneousSuper quiet and fast mechanismSet up with HomeKit and programming fingerprints etc on the app is intuitive and easyFuture-proofing a bit with Matter Over ThreadEnormous value for such a full featured Matter Over Thread lockCons:Physical keyhole is inconveniently located under TWO covers (NOT a big deal as there are literally five other ways to lock/unlock)So quiet I no longer get an audible warning hubby’s on the elevator coming home so it’s made afternoon assignations extra dangerous! (jk, but the old lock was loud enough to let anyone in the apartment know someone was almost home)So no real cons. It’s a great lock with none of the “new & shiny” $$ premium other brands seem to be charging for MoT locks.

Perfect lock! For Apple / iPhone users. Thread Wifi System – Battery life and Home Key convenience
This lock is awesome for iPhone users – perfect integration with the Thread “wifi” network that means much longer battery life than any other standard wifi smart locks, plus opens with just tapping iphone to the door to unlock. I’ve been looking into smart locks for a long time and going down the rabbit hole leads to the Apple system being the best for connectivity, battery life, as well as the HomeKey convenience. You need to buy a HomePod Mini to use this feature (I got one for $50 on Facebook marketplace), but now I can just tap my phone to the door and it unlocks instantly. Liked it so much that I bought a second for my other back door – now I don’t care any house keys anymore! I can also remotely lock and unlock and see door lock status within my apple Home app. Also, I get door unlock and lock alerts to my phone home screen, to show if someone opens your door while you’re away. This lock took me all of 20 minutes to install, even in my old grungy garage door. It had very clear instructions. Added to the Apple Home app within minutes. I also added the Seekpoint app for further options. Note my second lock initially had a “jammed lock” error, if you get this you just need to calibrate the lock in the seekpoint app, because it is set up for the wrong direction door opening. Was fixed within 30 seconds.Overall, this is one of the most complete smart locks I’ve seen. Seems very well made, and is super responsive. I’m hoping the battery life lives up to its claims, but it should with the Thread system. They really thought of everything for this lock, because they even added an emergency USB-C port on the outside incase the lock fully dies and needs power to get inside. It also even has fingerprint access, which I never plan to use, but other reviews say works well. The code access works quickly, and it locks responsively when you’re leaving with just 2 taps.Overall, very happy with these two locks. Used for only a couple weeks so far, just hoping they hold up well.

Great Design and Performance
I was a little concerned about going with a newer brand that I was not familiar with, especially for a lock. I decided to give it a shot after readings various reviews online. So far I am very impressed with not only the lock itself, but the overall design, the packaging, instructions, and the app. I have had a few smart locks over the years, and often not impressed. The lock is much faster to respond than my other locks. The fingerprint sensor is VERY fast to respond making it actually useful. HomeKit integrations is seamless and well done. Even the app is well done and bug free (even the big companies can’t seem to get that right. The construction seems solid even though the housing is plastic (which is understandable given the price point). Time will tell how well this holds up, especially in the sun. I can’t comment on the security, but appears no better or worse than others on the market.

I recently upgraded from another smart lock to the X1 and I am thrilled. Our previous lock was slow, unreliable and often failed to unlock when needed. The X1 is everything I was looking for – fast using thread support, tight Apple Home integration and Home Key support, multiple unlock option including fingerprint and passcode, and a sleek professional look.I’m surprised the quality available at this price – you won’t be disappointed.

It’s FAST. Stupidly fast. Works great. It has almost every feature I could ask for. The single solitary thing it lacks that my other locks (two different models of Yale) have is a “privacy” button. (It’s a button on the inside of the lock that disables visitors from entering, even if they normally always have access, useful for not being interrupted by an in-law when you and your spouse are alone…) As long as the people you give codes to have a basic understanding of manners and boundaries, it’s not a necessary feature though. My wife does find that the fingerprint reader is finicky, since the WHOLE sensor needs to be covered to read a print and she has small fingers. But since the pin works and so does home key, it doesn’t really matter for her. Might be more of an issue for people that lack home key and can’t be trusted with a code, but… can get a fingerprint? The only situation I can think of is that of a latchkey kid to be honest.Either way, no regrets. I will say that if the updated Yale ever drops in price by $150 CAD, I’ll get another one of those for the front door and put this one on the garage. My in-laws are sometimes… not great about calling first. For the price though, it’s the equal of locks twice as pricey.
